Description
The composition consists of a meticulously crafted limestone base adorned with bronze elements. Breaking away from the usual portrayal of a fierce military commander, the statue depicts Rákóczi as a young student wearing simple clothes and a cloak, with the artist's signature soft, slightly jovial facial features. Next to the figure of the prince, miniature replicas of the Hungarian Holy Crown and scepter rest on a stone ledge, while a Czech inscription above honors his student years spent here.
Story
The sculpture was unveiled on March 15, 2025, during the national holiday events and the traditional March Festivities organized by Hungarian scouts and students in the Czech Republic. The chosen location is deeply symbolic: the young Francis Rákóczi studied and lived in this Jesuit college on Malostranské Square between 1691 and 1692, after the Vienna Court attempted to separate him from his Hungarian roots and family.
