Description

The finely crafted bronze mini-sculpture depicts the two icons performing the song Barcelona. Freddie Mercury sings in his signature dynamic, energetic pose with one arm raised high, while Montserrat Caballé stands beside him with her characteristic elegance as a true diva in a long gown. The sculpture beautifully reflects both the contrast and harmony between the raw energy of rock music and the disciplined beauty of opera.

Story

The friendship and collaboration between the frontman of Queen and the world-renowned Catalan soprano culminated in 1987 with the recording of the song Barcelona. Born from an unprecedented marriage of pop music and opera, this monumental piece was chosen as the official anthem of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. Although Freddie Mercury did not live to see the opening ceremony, the song—performed live by Montserrat Caballé alongside Freddie’s recorded vocals—became one of the most emotional and cathartic moments in Olympic history. Mihály Kolodko placed the duo's guerrilla sculpture on Montjuïc Hill in January 2026, in the very area where the Olympic Stadium stands.
